Getting Toubles with your PC

March 6th, 2009 admin No comments

The Compaq monitor for my computer was beginning to go on the fritz on my Compaq Hewlett Packard desktop computer. The first sign of trouble occurred when I noticed that the screen seemed as if it were quivering sometimes as if small ripples were running across the page. Then, certain sections of the screen would appear to freeze. I knew something was wrong with the computer and I hoped that the problem lied in the Compaq monitor and not the processor itself. Finally one day I started the computer up and the monitor just stayed black. I could hear the pc running as usual so I was fairly certain that my monitor had gone bad.

I went to my local electronics store and explained my problem. The salesman agreed that it probably was the monitor and suggested that I should try buying a replacement Compaq monitor and hooking it up to the computer to see. If it was more than just the monitor, the salesman informed me that the store would return the new monitor if I returned it as long as there was no damage to it or that I could keep the new monitor and still pay a discounted price on an entire new Compaq Hewlett Packard computer if I had to buy one. It sounded like a win-win situation to me.

I browsed some of the newer computer monitors and was amazed by the high quality monitors that were on the shelves. Modern technology had done well in improving television sets and other electronics but I had no idea how clear a computer screen could be. Especially since my monitor had been looking like a moving stream for the last few months. There were widescreen monitors, high definition monitors, and the most innovative technology were touch screen computer monitors. I couldn’t believe the selection available.

I ended up buying a middle of the road Compaq monitor. It was a widescreen that was moderately priced. Since I was unsure about what component of my computer was broken, I thought it best to start smaller. I brought it home and hooked it up to my Compaq Hewlett Packard desktop computer and what do you know? It worked fantastically. The screen quality was incredible. Now I could look through my photos and play games on the computer with a clear picture. And for the price, I could not believe that great quality of my

Do Cost Comparison Websites Work For IT Services?

March 5th, 2009 admin No comments

How can it ever be possible to compare the price of data recovery without understanding the root of the problem?

The data recovery sector has always been a very competitive arena with companies vying for the competitive edge and employing questionable tactics to get their websites up the ranking or even clicking on competitors adwords campaigns. But the latest reported tactics seem to take the biscuit.

Cost comparison sites are springing up all over the world and to a great extent most of these will give a fair comparison of the market given any defined set of terms.

This is of course a relatively simple thing to do given that the product or service is fixed or all variations in terms are available on the main website of the companies being compared.

So how can you possible do a cost comparison website when it comes to a service without first establishing the actual problem in the first place. Also if other data recovery companies are not happy to sign up to such a service even if you could conceivably do a fair comparison, how could it it be fair if the very industry that is benig compared does not buy into the concept of services cost comparison websites, and indeed why should they?

The big question here is where does it leave the consumer who is in most cases urgently looking for the best solution to a data loss problem in the first place, surely this would be classed as a blatant attempt to mislead the consumer to the fact that they are dealing a reputable company and getting a fair price to boot.

Most reputable data recovery companies will of course not wish to see customers put in this situation.

I don’t think any recovery expert would disagree that there is simply is not a one solution fits all approach to data recovery, and assessment of the facts can be indeed dictate the actually recovery procedure that actually takes place if you want to have the best chance of full data recovery.

Product comparison websites are very well suited to products for example comparing the cost of one hard drive to exactly the same drive from another supplier, but when it comes to any solution based service be it data recovery or even automobile repair, until you know the root cause of the problem it will be impossible to truly compare one business against another.

Product comparison websites of data recovery services simply will never be accurate as not enough details are known upfront and actual solutions can be too varied so these comparison sites should be avoided or taken with a big dose of salt.

How to Shop for Your Ideal Laptop

March 1st, 2009 admin No comments

If you’re in the market for a brand new laptop, you’ll definitely want to scout around and find the ideal computer hardware for your needs. Although laptops  come in all shapes and sizes, the following tips should guide you well enough to make a smart purchase.

The first thing you need to be sure of is your laptops’s technical specifications. You should get exactly what you need to match your activities, not more, and not less. For example, you need totally different machine if you’re just planning to use it for office purposes, as opposed to letting your laptops be the center of your home entertainment system.

Different applications need different type of laptops, and getting more than what you need is literally a waste of funds. However if you get less than what you need, it causes frustration and time-wasting.

The first thing you need to consider is the Central Processing Unit or CPU; it is the “brains” of your computer. Generally speaking a faster CPU is better as it will cut down on loading and processing time, but there is a choice between Intel processors, or the rest.

You should also think about the overall weight and size of your laptop. If light and portable is your cup of tea, choose the ones that weight less than 1.2kg – these are usually on the higher price range but it will be worth the money, and the lack of tired nights!

Thirdly, and most importantly, the warranty period and service terms for your laptop. Generally speaking most laptops come with standard one-year warranty, but certain brands like Dell also offer “extended” three-year warranties and on-site repairs. This means that they will send someone over to your office or home to solve any problems you may have with your laptop. Expect a premium for the “on-site” repairs, but extended warranties are becoming more commonplace and you should look out for for laptop models that offer them at no additional cost.

As for personal choice, I prefer Lenovo laptops, especially the Lenovo Thinkpad laptop that is both affordable and sufficient for high-end processing. Ideally, your future laptop should be able to get you through the next four years before you invest on a new one. Not many laptops can do that though, so shop for your laptop wisely!

Five Great Reasons To Place Spyware Killer Programs On Your Computer

January 27th, 2009 admin No comments

Spyware, by definition, is computer application installed in a computer system without the user’s knowledge and permission. Although it is a popular idea that spyware inconspicuously monitors user activity, spyware stretches beyond plain monitoring of actions. Besides observing a user’s activities on their computers, spyware possesses the ability to acquire specific facts about the person’s, browsing history, and can even manage and control the computer system in a number of ways.

Spyware can install additional applications that the individual would not ordinarily utilize, permit entry to potentially insecure websites, or redirect marketing profit. The majority of spyware applications mislead users into installing them, by masquerading as genuine programs. You usually need smart spyware killer programs to dig out and delete them.

Excluding these, computer system configurations can be altered that affect things like connection speed, homepage configurations, and complete loss of valuable software. Spyware brings about lots of other negative results, and below a number are elaborated in more detail.

Ads

The vast majority of spyware programs cause pop-up advertisements to {appear}. These pop up at specific time periods and circumstances, possibly each time a user stops at a particular website, or every time they open a different browser window. Spyware offers this as a good feature for third-party advertisers. Ad placement is sold to them, and being paid from advertisers is one of the reasons behind spyware applications’ information gathering activities.

Users protest and complain about pop-up advertisements as they find them invasive and irritating. Most pop-ups use animation or flickering banners that users also find {distracting}. There might also be advertisements for pornographic websites that display randomly. These ads are not only bothersome; they may go against anti-pornography acts in various countries or states.

Identity Robbery and Fraud

One of the most risky effects of spyware is certainly identity theft. A number of spyware applications relay data such as usernames, passwords, and even bank or investment information from your computer, to another person.  In current years, a myriad individuals have become victims of identity theft, {resulting in} billions of dollars of losses for individuals and companies alike.

Personal Affairs

As remarkable as it sounds, spyware has also been discovered to intrude on private relationships as well. One program, at least, has been expressly marketed for this reason alone. Loverspy was made to keep an eye on partner activity and reveal disloyalty, if any. Monitoring an individual’s activity without their knowledge and monitoring information even on communal or conjugal property, is illegal in some countries. Makers and users of the software were indicted on charges of wiretapping and related computer offenses.

Computer Diagnostics

January 25th, 2009 admin No comments

The diagnostics that are associated with computers can help to identify any problem or failure that computers show when they are having problems. Diagnostics are used to test out the computer system, which includes both the BIOS and memory, software, and even the hardware that is attached to the computer.

The most common types of problems will occur when your computer is down to very low resources, which can either be a low amount of RAM, or a low disk space. These conditions are very common, and generally result in your computer running very slow. This can easily be fixed, all you have to do is defrag your hard drive, and get rid of some programs and files that you no longer use or need.

Almost all types of computer diagnostic software can find and fix just about any problem that you are having. It normally starts off with a BIOS examination, and goes on from there. PC diagnostics software can determine a lot from the BIOS, from the common settings to those that have a major impact on both boot up and performance.

No matter what you do, you should never modify or tamper with the BIOS settings, as it can lead to serious problems. If you do plan to modify or mess with your BIOS, you should always create a backup first, just in case something goes wrong. The BIOS settings can be very tricky, although they are responsible for a lot to do with your computer. If you have never been in the BIOS before, you really shouldn’t be modifying anything inside of it.

Depending on the diagnostics program that you are using, there will be several different features available. Right now, two of the most popular are Norton Systemworks and PC Doctor. Both of these programs offer full diagnostics software, good for fixing just about any software related computer program you can imagine.

Once you run the program, you’ll be able to select the diagnostic test that you are planning to run. Some offer you a full system scan, which will scan your entire computer and then display any problems that you having. After displaying any problems, the software will normally give you an option to go ahead and fix it. As long as the problem is nothing serious, the diagnostic software can generally fix it.

The more complicated problems, such as hardware failures or hard drive crashes, are a totally different story. They will require a technician who is very experienced, that can rebuild the hardware. Diagnostic software can report hardware problems to you, although most of the time it is unable to fix it.

There are other computer diagnostic software that you run after starting the computer or rebooting, that will check everything from BIOS. These types are great, although the types such as Norton and PC Doctor are by far superior. They offer far more features, including defragment, cache cleaner, and the option to delete your temporary Internet files. These features are great to have, especially if you aren’t the technical type.

For more reasons than one, computer diagnostic software is the ideal way to find and prevent problems with your computer. Norton Systemworks offers you Ghost as well, which is the perfect way to back up your data. You can back up certain files, or just go ahead and back up your entire hard drive. Systemworks and Ghost are very easy to use, even if you are completely new to computers. For everything they offer you – computer diagnostic programs are the ideal way to prevent problems before they happen.

3 Types Of Cheap Print Cartridges

January 24th, 2009 admin No comments

Your printer ink cartridges play as big a part in the final quality of your print as the paper that you use. If you use cheap paper, your print quality will suffer and in many cases the same is true of using cheap print cartridges. This isn’t always the case, however. Discount ink can be bought in a few different ways and each of them has advantages and disadvantages.

Refill Ink

The first option for cheap ink is to refill your empty cartridges. This is generally the cheapest of all the alternatives, but it is also tends to wind up with the lowest quality prints.

It’ll depend on what brand and model of printer you have, but many of the newer printers are difficult to refill. It can also be quite messy because you’re dealing with bottled ink, trying to inject it back into the empty cartridge.

Recycled Cartridges

There are plenty of companies that recycle cartridges for you. They basically take the empty cartridges, clean them up, refill the ink and test them.

This is more expensive than refilling your own because you’re paying for the labor involved, but it tends to give you better results.

These companies have refilling and cleaning equipment that can do a much better job of remanufacturing your empty cartridge. They also generally offer a guarantee on their work, so if the cartridge doesn’t work properly you can either get a replacement or get your money back.

Generic Brand Cartridges

Generic cartridges are not as common as the other two options, mainly because many printer companies have patents on their ink cartridges so no other companies can duplicate them.

There are some cartridges that you can find brand new generic replacement ink for. These generic cartridge are not recycled, they are new but they aren’t made by the printer companies themselves.

These cartridges tend to be the highest priced of the three options, but they are still cheaper than the original cartridges, and work just as well.

Which option will be best for you is going to depend a lot on how much printing you do, and what you’re printing. If you’re printing photos that you want to be able to keep for a lifetime, you’ll have different needs than if you’re just printing copies of web pages for future reference.

{The Windows Registry – Microsoft’s Best Sales Man}

January 22nd, 2009 admin No comments

In the late nineties and early noghties the computer industry was advancing at an incredible rate with a brand new computer being virtually obsolete only a year later. This was great news for Microsoft as every time a computer became obsolete people would buy a new one and with that they would buy a copy of Microsoft Windows. This made for a simple equation from Microsoft’s point of view more computers getting bought equals more copies of Microsoft Windows getting bought. These were indeed happy times for Microsoft. Then things started to slow down in the computer industry and computer were lasting longer without becoming obsolete. So of course Microsoft made less money. Although Microsoft had a built in safe guard against these slowing sales and this is the Windows Registry. If its deliberate or not I wouldn’t know you would have to ask Bill Gates but the fact of the matter is the Windows Registry corrupts over time and causes your computer to slow down so you think you need a new one. The fact is you don’t need a new computer there is nothing wrong with what you have. You need a Windows Registry Fixer!

You see you can save yourself a lot of money by purchasing a Windows Registry Fixer rather than a new computer. Most Windows Registry Fixers will allow you to scan your computer for free to check for errors and only charge if you decide to fix them and even then its only about $30. What I find interesting is that Microsoft make only a token effort when it comes to publishing these Registry Fixers. Now I am not saying Windows registry errors are a deliberate sales tool constructed by Microsoft but what I am saying is they are a very convenient error for them. So please dont get a new computer save your cash and fix the one you have already.
